Phone Policy in the classrooms
Dear Parents,
Teachers now have phones in their classrooms. The purpose of these phones is so that teachers can quickly communicate with the office and vice versa, so they can make professional calls within the district without leaving their rooms, and so that students may call home to make after school arrangements without using the office phone. They are not intended for receiving either personal calls or calls from parents. If you need to get information to your child, you need to call Sheila in the office. She will get a message to your student immediately either via intercom or by calling the classroom. If you wish to leave a message for a staff member, you may leave a message with Sheila, or on the staff member’s voice mail.
Thanks so much,
Wendy Borton
Photo Use Policy
RNCS sent a form in the Fall Packet to give or deny permission for your student's photo to be used. Sheila also has forms. Please fill out the form and return it to our school's office.
Notice of Student Publicity from Marjorie Ledell
Executive Director, Community Relations & District Services
From time to time during the year, the school publicizes various student achievements, awards and events. Please let the Front Office know if you do not want us to use an image of your child (photo and/or videotape) for internal and external publicity. Publicity may include both print and electronic publishing (Internet and Channel 26, the District’s local access channel). Any images of your child on the Web will not be accompanied by your child’s last name. Thank you.
RETURN TO TOPSchool Lunch Payment
Pre-pay Option--One of the ways to keep the line moving is for parents to pre-pay their children’s lunch account. By minimizing the number of cash paying students in our lunch lines, the lines move faster because pre-pay takes less time than taking cash. Although we know pre-paying isn’t always possible, we truly appreciate it when you can do it.
Also, we want to say a little about the use of PIN numbers. On rare occasions, PINs may be mis-used or stolen. If that happens, please have your child report this to a Food Service Worker, another adult in the lunchroom, and/or the principal’s office.
Please make your checks for school lunches out to "Shoreline School District."
Thanks from District Food Services
RETURN TO TOPFingerprinting drivers
The cost of processing Finger-print paperwork with WSP has been increased to $55 as of July 1 (I know what took them so long to let us have the info?). Can you put something to this affect out on the Web so any parents who are about to have their fingerprints done and have the old information can get their check for $55 (not $49).

In order for any medications to be given at school or on any field trip or the longer trips, a medical form from you doctor must be filled out. This includes pain relief medicine, bug repellant and sunscreen in addition to perscription medicines. You can download a copy of the form on the forms pagee.
Health Insurance for Camps
A year and a half ago the school district implemented a new policy that requires every student who goes on an overnight field trip to be covered by medical insurance. This includes students whose parents are accompanying them on the trip.
Prior to our Camps you will be asked to provide the name of your health insurance company and your policy number. If your child does not have health insurance you will need to provide it or he or she will not be able to go. One option that families have is provided through the company Myers-Stevens and Toohey. The policy that has worked best for people is the “24-Hour Accident Plan”. This plan provides catastrophic coverage for your child 24 hours a day through the school year. This policy covers your child from the first day of the new school year until the last—so even if you purchased a policy at the end of school last year you’ll have to get another to cover this year. It’s fee ranges from $73-$185. Sheila (the school secretary) has the forms for this policy and if finances are a problem we can offer scholarships to pay for this.
At the beginning of each year Fall Camp comes really quickly once school begins so be aware that this will need to be in place before you child can attend. If you have any questions about this policy the district contact person is Di Mikesell at 361-4366.
Sports Physicals
The whole subject of sports physicals can be very confusing—when you need them, how long they last and even what form to take to your doctor. This will attempt to clarify questions but if at the end you are still confused or need the form packets, please call the high school or middle school where the after school sports are being held.
As students initially enter secondary schools,(middle and high school) sports physicals (officially known as “Secondary Student Health Report”) are required to be able to try out and play in a sport after school. It is recommended that this doctor appointment be scheduled sometime after June 1 of the current year. The physical your student may have had before entering sixth grade is not valid to play sports as it is over a year old. This completed Secondary Student Health Report” is required for entry into seventh and ninth grades in the Shoreline School District if the student is going to participate in after school sports. The left side of the form is completed by the parent/guardian and the right side is completed by your health care provider. The sports physical is good for 24 months.
The entire sports form packet includes The “Secondary Student Health Report”, Student Athletic Emergency Information (on half page yellow form), Parental Permission and Request for Waiver of Accident Plan Coverage (an orange form), and Middle School Athletic Training and Conduct Code forms. Fall sports usually start the first week of school so it is imperative that these forms be turned in that week if your student wishes to participate. Please contact the school holding the sports event to obtain forms.
