A Brief History of the Room Nine Community School
Room Nine Community School began over thirty years ago as a small program that occupied one room, Room Nine, in the original school building.
Over the past three decades, the community has grown and flourished in a variety of settings throughout the district. We have grown considerably over the years and now occupy the entire 300 wing of the Meridian Park campus.
Although the school began as a K-6 elementary, in 1999 we expanded to K-8, doubling our enrollment to 147 students. Today, we have two components: K-5 elementary and 6-8 middle school (The Journey Program).
Our teachers collaboratively teach all students, focusing on certain age levels for reading, math, and thematic unit instruction.
Over its 30-plus years, Room Nine has changed and grown, yet remained true to its original mission of being a multi-age learning community of students, parents, and teachers, engaged in experience-based education. We expect to continue our exploration of new ways to teach and learn for the next 30 years!
